The Quantock Hills stretch over 40 square miles from Taunton, Somerset’s county town, to the Bristol Channel sea. They have deeply incised, wooded, combes (valleys) and open heather moorland along the ridge. They are designated as a Site of Special Scientific Interest and an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. The Quantocks (and Exmoor) are home to the red deer and Exmoor ponies that rome free. They provide superb walks/rides, tremendous views (to Exmoor, Sedgemoor, the sea), ‘deep romantic’ valleys and pretty old villages.
